Gasgoo Munich-Dongfeng Motor and battery maker Sunwoda launched production of their jointly developed 120Ah ultra-fast charging cell in Yichang, Hubei, on May 25. The milestone marks a critical breakthrough in the partners' joint R&D and manufacturing efforts, promising to accelerate Dongfeng’s shift toward new energy vehicles and upgrade the battery sector across Central China.

The 120Ah cell rolling off the line now was jointly defined, developed, and manufactured by Dongfeng and Sunwoda. It combines nearly three decades of Sunwoda’s lithium-ion expertise with Dongfeng’s deep understanding of full-scenario vehicle applications. Together, they cracked tough industry bottlenecks, including thermal runaway control during high-rate charging and mitigating degradation over long cycle life.
Boasting 4C ultra-fast charging capabilities, the cell can replenish power from 10% to 80% in just 15 minutes. Designed to last more than 1 million kilometers, it is produced on lines with over 90% automation and monitored by an AI-driven quality management system. This setup addresses the core demands of new energy vehicles: rapid charging, high safety, and long-term durability.
The cell has already secured project designations from Dongfeng’s eπ, Yijing, and Forthing brands, while the company is actively advancing cooperation with joint venture partners including Dongfeng Peugeot-Citroën, Dongfeng Nissan, and Dongfeng Honda.
