Gasgoo Munich- As Leapmotor accelerates its European localization, its supply chain is extending in tandem. On August 11, Gasgoo learned that Röchling Automotive has secured a nomination for Leapmotor International's (LPMI) European model program. The supplier will provide active aerodynamics, exterior, and fluid management components for models slated for European launch. These parts will be produced at Röchling's plant in Araia, Spain, supporting the project through local manufacturing.

This isn't the first time the two have joined forces. Since 2019, Röchling Automotive and Leapmotor have collaborated in China, establishing a stable technical and supply relationship. Röchling Automotive CEO Martin Schüler noted that Leapmotor has gained a solid understanding of the company's engineering and production capabilities through prior projects in China. This European nomination signifies that their partnership is extending further into overseas markets.
The timing is significant, as Röchling's move coincides with Leapmotor's push to accelerate local manufacturing in Europe. Leapmotor International, the joint venture with Stellantis, oversees sales and production outside Greater China. In recent years, the partners have advanced their European market layout, identifying Spain as a key production base.
Consequently, Röchling's entry into Leapmotor's European supply chain is not merely a single component nomination; it reflects a broader shift in Leapmotor's European operations—from exporting fully built vehicles to adopting local production, local sourcing, and regionalized supply.
For Leapmotor, building a stable local parts supply chain in Europe will help shorten logistics chains and improve model launch efficiency. Yet localization also implies higher demands for cost control, supply chain management, and compliance. As competition in Europe intensifies, the ability to truly localize vehicle manufacturing, parts procurement, and supplier networks will be the key to whether Chinese automakers can sustain their European expansion.
