Leapmotor's July Deliveries Exceed 100,000 Units for First Time, Full-Stack In-House R&D Sustains Sales Growth

Edited by Greg From Gasgoo

Gasgoo Munich- On Aug 1. Leapmotor released its July delivery figures on Thursday. Global new vehicle deliveries hit 101,267 units — a 102% surge from a year ago — marking the first time a Chinese EV startup has cracked the 100,000 monthly barrier. Over the past three years, sales have climbed steadily from the 10,000-unit mark in March 2022, clearing hurdles at 30,000, 50,000, and 70,000 along the way, maintaining a consistent upward trajectory.

Driving that steady ascent is a robust product matrix. Leapmotor has now deployed ten models — either in production or awaiting launch — spanning various price points and body styles.

The A10 has secured a spot at the top of Chinese-brand SUV sales, while the D19 consistently delivers monthly volumes above 10,000 units. The D99 MPV, meanwhile, has completed batch deliveries. Collectively, the C-series and B-series have amassed global sales of 850,000 and 250,000 units respectively, building a massive user base. With the new A05 model set to launch soon, the brand is expanding its lineup to capture even more consumer demand.

Handling that surge in orders hinges on Leapmotor’s commitment to full-stack in-house R&D and deep vertical integration. Official data shows that in-house developed components account for over 65% of vehicle costs, while architecture standardization has hit 88%. This platform-based approach has effectively slashed both research and production expenses.

The company has built more than 18 component factories, enabling the in-house production of over a dozen core parts, including battery cells, electric drivetrains, electronic controls, thermal management systems, headlights, and AR-HUDs. These self-developed components are also supplied to other automakers, both domestic and international. This highly autonomous supply chain not only ensures production stability during high-volume delivery periods but also leverages in-house manufacturing to keep vehicle costs in check.

Technological reserves are paving the way for future growth. A technology showcase in September will unveil updates across vehicle architecture, batteries, electric drivetrains, and electronics. The previously unveiled "world model" autonomous driving system is set for an upgrade; the new version improves road recognition and decision-making in complex traffic, enhancing the driving experience without relying on ultra-high hardware computing power. It will eventually be adapted to all brand models equipped with lidar.

On the global front, Leapmotor is steadily expanding overseas channels through its joint venture with Stellantis. Beyond domestic growth, the pathway to global expansion is now open.

In terms of market presence, Leapmotor’s global channel network is taking shape. Operations have landed in over 40 countries and regions, with total offline stores surpassing 2,000. While domestic sales continue to rise, the brand is making steady headway in overseas markets.
