Gasgoo Munich-On October 28, LUXEED Executive Director and Executive Vice President Zhao Changjiang pushed back against complaints about "frequent updates" during a special livestream marking the first deliveries of the LUXEED R7. He noted that over its two years on the market, the SUV has seen just two complete revamps.
The first arrived in August 2025, bringing a new logo, an Aurora Green exterior, and a driver-side zero-gravity seat. The second is the refreshed version that debuted alongside the LUXEED RX and STELATO V8 on September 28. Zhao clarified that a March tweak wasn’t a model-year update at all — it was simply a hardware boost for advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS).

That boost came in the form of a new variant equipped with an 896-line, dual-light-path, image-grade LiDAR. Adding the sensor at that juncture was about keeping pace with the ADAS hardware supply chain's rapid iteration.
Deliveries of the refreshed LUXEED R7 officially kicked off on October 27. To mark the occasion, Zhao joined the first owners for a convoy from Changsha to Dawei Mountain in Liuyang, livestreaming the drive across city streets, highways, and winding mountain roads to showcase the vehicle’s real-world performance.
The update logic for smart EVs has fundamentally shifted, Zhao argued. Pre-embedded hardware, surplus computing power, and sensor specs now evolve in step with upstream suppliers — making it nearly impossible for automakers to lock in configurations for five years at a project's inception. As hardware cycles accelerate, the industry’s traditional fixed-schedule revamp model is giving way to dynamic configuration updates.
This approach reflects a broader tension across the smart EV sector: buyers fear their cars will quickly lose value and fall behind, yet automakers must keep pace with chips and sensors to sharpen ADAS and cabin tech. Striking a balance is essential. By distinguishing between "full vehicle revamps" and "targeted hardware upgrades," the LUXEED R7 aims to give consumers clearer expectations about product evolution.
