On Jan. 14, the First Department of Equipment Industry of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the Department of Industry Development of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), and the Bureau of Price Supervision, Inspection and Anti-Unfair Competition under the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) (collectively, the three agencies) jointly convened a symposium with companies in the new-energy vehicle (NEV) industry to map out steps to standardize competition in the sector.

Officials from MIIT's Equipment Industry Development Center, the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, and 17 key automakers, among others, took part.

The meeting called for thorough implementation of decisions of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council, stressing innovation-driven development and putting quality first. It urged resolute resistance to disorderly "price wars" and the creation of a market order where quality is matched with appropriate pricing and competition is fair. The three agencies will further strengthen coordination, expand cost investigations and price monitoring, ramp up supervision and law enforcement, and tighten oversight of production consistency. Companies that violate rules will be dealt with strictly in accordance with laws and regulations, to safeguard a fair and orderly market environment and promote the auto industry's high-quality development.
