Gasgoo Munich-Xiaomi EV recently detailed the wading capabilities of its SkyNomad series in an online Q&A. The automaker emphasized that the feature is designed for specific emergencies—not to encourage drivers to tackle deep water on a whim.

According to the company, the entire Xiaomi SkyNomad lineup comes standard with a wading mode, though maximum depths vary by trim: the N90 Max handles up to 750mm, while the N70 Max tops out at 650mm. The system is designed for two primary scenarios. First, flooded streets following heavy urban rain—drivers must manually activate the mode and proceed slowly after assessing the depth, while strictly limiting exposure time and distance. Second, underpasses, tunnels, or low-lying zones facing waterlogging, where the mode can also be engaged manually to pass through.
Xiaomi specifically warned that if water depth exceeds the vehicle’s limit while driving, the system triggers an emergency state. The infotainment screen flashes an alert and automatically unlocks child safety locks and opens rear windows—allowing occupants to escape quickly in life-threatening situations. At that point, driving safety is severely compromised, and extreme caution is required.

For more extreme scenarios, the SkyNomad series features an emergency floating capability designed to keep the cabin free of significant water ingress for up to three minutes. Still, Xiaomi EV stressed that drivers must contact an authorized service center immediately for a full inspection or repairs after any emergency wading incident—failure to do so could lead to subsequent damage or safety risks.
Additionally, citing heavy rainfall brought by Typhoon “White Dolphin” in recent days, Xiaomi EV advised drivers to avoid urban underpasses, tunnels, low-lying roads, underground passages, and garages during downpours due to high waterlogging risks. The company urged users not to attempt crossing flooded areas recklessly.
