XPENG Overcomes Chip Shortage, Adopts Double Shifts to Accelerate MONA L03 Capacity

Edited by Greg From Gasgoo

Gasgoo Munich- On August 7, Jiang Wen, XPENG's MONA R&D head, apologized on Weibo to customers with confirmed orders for delivery delays. He provided an update on production progress.

Jiang attributed recent disruptions to surging global AI demand, which disrupted high-end chip supplies and reduced August output. Supply chain issues are now largely resolved. Factories have shifted to double shifts, nearly doubling efficiency this month. Capacity is expected to reach maximum levels in September and October.

July marked a gradual production ramp-up phase. August introduced double shifts, significantly boosting capacity.

The MONA L03 is the first global model in the MONA series for domestic and overseas markets. It offers pure electric and extended-range powertrains across hundreds of configurations. Jiang acknowledged slight production schedule variations but said gaps are minimal. The company is committed to delivering within the promised cycle.

The MONA L03 debuted globally in Munich on July 16, priced between 123,800 and 156,800 yuan. Orders exceeded 46,859 units within the first hour, setting a record across XPENG's lineup.

Wait times range from 12 to 16 weeks for the pure electric version and 7 to 11 weeks for the extended-range version. An XPENG vice president noted initial capacity ramp-up is slow but will surge after reaching a specific milestone.

XPENG reported total deliveries of 38,027 vehicles in July, up 4% year-on-year. MONA L03 deliveries were constrained by supply issues. As production ramps up in August, delivery potential is expected to increase over the coming two months.
