Hesai wins BAIC LiDAR contract as upgraded ATX targets mass production in 2026

Gasgoo Munich- On March 11, Hesai Technology announced that its upgraded ATX LiDAR system has secured production nominations from BAIC Group for several vehicle models. The sensor is expected to enter mass production in the second half of 2026, with deliveries to follow as the related vehicles move toward commercialization.

BAIC is one of China's major state-owned automotive groups and an early participant in the development of autonomous driving technologies. In December 2025, the company received approval from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology to conduct pilot road operations for Level 3 autonomous driving systems, signaling progress toward the commercial deployment of advanced driver assistance and autonomous technologies in China. The latest partnership suggests that Hesai's LiDAR solutions continue to gain traction among major domestic automakers as the industry prepares for wider adoption of higher-level automated driving features.

Hesai's ATX LiDAR is designed as a compact, long-range sensor combining a small form factor with high-performance perception capabilities. After entering large-scale production in the first quarter of 2025, the system quickly became a widely adopted component for safety and advanced driver assistance functions, with cumulative shipments surpassing one million units.

An upgraded version introduced in November further enhanced performance and safety capabilities. The company said the improved model has already secured orders exceeding four million units from several leading global automakers and is scheduled to begin mass deliveries in April 2026. To date, Hesai reports that its LiDAR products have received production nominations from more than 40 automobile brands for over 160 vehicle models, including all of China's top ten best-selling car brands. The company has also secured supply agreements covering the full 2026 model lineup for its two largest ADAS customers.
