Gasgoo Munich- At the 2026 GTC conference on March 17, NVIDIA detailed progress in L4 autonomous driving technology and unveiled a slate of new partnerships.

The company is teaming up with BYD, Geely, and Nissan to develop next-generation L4 autonomous driving projects based on the NVIDIA DRIVE Hyperion platform, while Isuzu is collaborating with TIER IV to utilize the platform's core DRIVE AGX Thor chip in building L4 autonomous buses.

Turning to mobility services, NVIDIA is expanding its alliance with Uber. The partners plan to launch autonomous fleets powered by NVIDIA DRIVE AV software in 28 cities across four continents by 2028, starting with Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay Area in the first half of 2027. Meanwhile, platforms such as Bolt, Grab, and Lyft are leveraging DRIVE Hyperion to accelerate their own autonomous driving deployments.

On the safety front, NVIDIA introduced Halos OS, a unified architecture built on the ASIL D-certified DriveOS. The system includes an active safety stack compliant with five-star NCAP standards. Quanta, Hesai, Valeo, and other ecosystem partners have joined the NVIDIA Halos AI System Inspection Lab to help maintain rigorous safety standards for autonomous driving.

For software and algorithms, NVIDIA released the open-source Alpamayo 1.5 model. Designed to process driving video, navigation commands, and natural language, the model outputs driving trajectories with reasoning logic—enabling vehicles to efficiently master complex decision-making through scene replay and instruction updates. In testing and validation, the company launched the Omniverse NuRec simulation platform. Powered by 3D Gaussian Splatting technology, it rapidly reconstructs real-world data into interactive 3D scenarios for stress testing extreme edge cases. Porsche Research and the University of Michigan's Mcity are already on board.
