WeRide brings Robotaxi services to WeChat as autonomous mobility moves closer to daily life

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On January 14, WeRide officially launched its Robotaxi service mini program on the WeChat platform. Without downloading a standalone app, users can simply search for the mini program "文远出行" (Wen Yuan Chu Xing) within WeChat to hail a WeRide Robotaxi in operating cities such as Guangzhou and Beijing, bringing autonomous, driverless travel directly into everyday use.

The shift from a standalone app to a WeChat mini program reflects WeRide's broader push to integrate autonomous driving into familiar daily scenarios. By leveraging WeChat's massive user base and high-frequency usage, the company aims to lower the entry barrier to Robotaxi services while strengthening public awareness and confidence in its self-driving technology.

WeRide currently stands out globally as the only autonomous driving company whose products have secured operating licenses across seven countries, including China, the United Arab Emirates, Singapore, France, Saudi Arabia, Belgium and the United States. Its Level 4 autonomous fleet exceeds 1,500 vehicles, more than 700 of which are Robotaxis. In partnership with Uber, WeRide operates the largest commercial Robotaxi fleet outside China and the US in the Middle East, and has outlined plans to deploy tens of thousands of Robotaxis by 2030.

The company has made a series of milestones in the global commercialization of Level 4 autonomous driving. In China, WeRide Robotaxis are already running fully driverless commercial operations in Guangzhou and Beijing, including round-the-clock services at major transport hubs such as airports and railway stations. In key overseas markets such as the Middle East and Singapore, the company maintains a lead of at least 18 months over many competitors. Across parts of Europe, including France, Switzerland and Belgium, WeRide remains the only autonomous driving firm with commercially deployed Level 4 fleets.

To encourage broader public adoption, WeRide has rolled out a range of promotional initiatives alongside the mini program launch, including New Year trial campaigns, referral incentives and special offers for first-time users, aimed at familiarizing more passengers with Robotaxi travel.
