Gasgoo Munich- On March 9, WEY pulled the wraps off its V9X flagship SUV during a global styling livestream in Baoding. Themed "Setting the Flag," the event showcased the AI-powered, six-seater luxury model. Notably, Great Wall Motor Chairman Wei Jianjun made his debut as the vehicle's spokesperson, joining media personality Ouyang Xiadan and designer Xu Lingfeng to unpack the design philosophy and outline the brand's technical roadmap. The V9X is expected to command a price tag around the 500,000 yuan range.

Wei Jianjun highlighted three "firsts" during the broadcast: he was the first to name a mass-market brand after his own surname, the first automaker founder to personally front a model campaign, and the first to integrate tangible Chinese elements into mass-production design. He noted that lending his surname serves as a personal guarantee of quality. Countering the industry narrative that luxury requires a certain pedigree, he argued that a brand's stature isn't dictated by geography—even smaller cities possess the industrial foundation to build high-end marques.
Design-wise, the V9X champions Oriental classic aesthetics. The front fascia features a symmetrical layout with a "double-eave" structure, while the badge draws inspiration from the flagpole at the historic Zhili Governor-General's Office in Baoding. Body surfaces reflect the craftsmanship of Ding porcelain, and mechanical door handles blend style with safety. Inside, the cabin centers on "leisure and elegance," offering a six-seat layout that balances utility with comfort. Throughout the vehicle, Chinese cultural motifs meet luxury craftsmanship.

On the technology front, the V9X is built on Great Wall Motor's Guiyuan S platform. It packs the Super Hi4 hybrid system, dual-chamber air suspension, and rear-wheel steering, with core components developed entirely in-house. Leveraging 36 years of manufacturing experience, WEY has established a robust R&D and supply chain ecosystem—several of its parts suppliers already serve international brands, providing a solid technical backbone for the new model.
The debut did more than just reveal the V9X's looks; it sharpened WEY's positioning as a purveyor of "Chinese luxury." As more details emerge—including market pricing, launch timing, and sales performance—Gasgoo will keep a close watch on how the model fares.
