Gasgoo.com (Shanghai January 25) - There were 14,000 automobile-related consumer lawsuits last year, the China Consumers' Association (CCA) said in a report released yesterday.
According to the CCA, the number of lawsuits filed showed serious problems in the industry. There were several outstanding cases filed against car dealers accused of taking refurbished and repaired vehicles and selling them as brand new. Additionally, cases of delayed arrival times and violations of tourist contracts were also prominent. Breach of contract cases also represented 13.7% of all lawsuits.
According to CCA-released statistics, the greatest increase in consumer lawsuits was in automobile-related cases, which rose a staggering 51.1% from 2009. While Chinese automobile sales last year reached a record high of 180 million vehicles, 2010 also saw frequent factory recalls, drawing greater attention to ongoing safety problems in the industry.
