Gasgoo Munich- BAIC Group recently established its Science and Technology Advisory Committee, holding its inaugural plenary session.
The committee is convened by Ouyang Minggao, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and professor at Tsinghua University. It boasts a high-level, comprehensive, and well-structured roster.
The advisory body brings together prominent experts from leading Chinese universities and research institutions, including Tsinghua University, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing Institute of Technology, Tongji University, Jilin University, and University of Science and Technology Beijing. Several members have been named to elite national talent programs, such as the National Ten Thousand Talents Program and the national high-level leading talent initiative. Their expertise spans the industry's core technologies — from new-energy batteries and motor drives to autonomous driving, electrical architecture, smart cabins, vehicle dynamics, safety, and lightweighting — effectively covering all critical technical frontiers. The committee blends academic leaders steeped in fundamental research with industry veterans possessing rich engineering experience, creating an integrated "industry-academia-research-application" innovation think tank.
Zhang Jianyong, BAIC's Party secretary and chairman, noted that forming the advisory committee is a critical step to align with the national innovation-driven development strategy, cultivate "new quality productive forces," and secure future core competencies.
Zhang outlined three key roles he expects the committee to play:
First, diagnosing and steering BAIC’s medium- and long-term technology roadmap and forward-looking strategic layout. Second, driving deep "collaborative research and co-creation" to accelerate the commercialization of original, disruptive technologies within BAIC, turning innovation into real-world productivity. Third, bridging the gap between BAIC’s engineers and academic scholars, fostering a new generation of tech talent through joint training and hands-on project collaboration.
During the inaugural plenary session, experts shared frontier technology trends and industry insights across fields like smart cabins, autonomous driving, intelligent chassis, embodied AI, core EV powertrains and new energy, vehicle lightweighting, and global expansion. They also offered recommendations on the bottlenecks facing BAIC’s tech development, providing crucial guidance for the group’s next phase of strategic planning and R&D focus.
