Bosch Aims to Double Heavy-Duty Commercial Vehicle Technology Sales Around 2035

Gasgoo Munich- "Heavy-duty commercial vehicles are a key growth area for Bosch," said Markus Heyn, deputy chairman of the board of management and chairman of the Mobility Solutions business sector, at IAA Transportation 2026 in Hanover this September. The company aims to double its sales in this sector by around 2035. Currently, sales of heavy-duty commercial vehicle technology exceed 4 billion euros.

Heyn stated that the company is fully leveraging its advantages as a global systems supplier to accelerate the development of diversified powertrains and new vehicle architectures. Although overall global auto production is on a downward trend in 2026, the heavy-duty commercial vehicle market is demonstrating stronger resilience. Driven by robust growth in the first half, global production is expected to increase by approximately 1% to 3.3 million units this year, and further climb to 4 million by around 2035. Assuming solid performance in the fourth quarter, Bosch Mobility Solutions expects to maintain its 2026 revenue levels.

In the pure electric mobility sector, one in three newly registered electric trucks in Europe this year is equipped with Bosch motors and inverters. Bosch recently secured a significant new order from Daimler Truck to supply e-drive powertrain components produced in Europe for the eActros. Additionally, Bosch has introduced a new heavy-duty e-axle, which integrates core components like motors and transmissions into a single solution suitable for commercial vehicles weighing 18 to 49 tons.

Regarding powertrain technology, Bosch adheres to a diversified strategy. In addition to fuel cell power modules, it provides key components for hydrogen internal combustion engines and plans to systematically consolidate its leading position in diesel engines by continuously optimizing traditional injection systems to meet the latest emission standards such as Euro 7. Bosch estimates that by 2030, about one-quarter of newly registered heavy trucks globally will adopt climate-friendly power technologies such as batteries or fuel cells, and this proportion is expected to rise to about half by 2035.

In the field of safety and driver assistance, new EU regulations implemented in July 2026 require emergency braking assistance systems to recognize pedestrians and cyclists, and driver monitoring systems to detect driver distraction. Bosch offers sensors and related functions that meet these requirements and plans to launch a new generation of multi-function cameras and radar sensors in 2027, utilizing artificial intelligence and enhanced computing power to achieve precise recognition of people and vehicles. In 2026, a digital rearview mirror with an integrated camera from Bosch entered mass production at two well-known European automakers.

In terms of electronic and electrical architecture, Bosch and its subsidiary ETAS are developing a centralized architecture, including high-performance, scalable in-vehicle computing platforms and supporting software platforms, to support the development of software-defined commercial vehicles. Markus Heyn stated that the company's goal is to achieve Level 4 autonomous driving, partly in response to the increasingly severe shortage of drivers in the logistics industry.
