Gasgoo Munich- Chery expects overseas-built vehicles to account for more than half of its exports by year-end for the first time. Executive Vice President Zhang Guibing projects that share could climb to 60% by 2027 and hit 70% by 2030. The ratio currently sits at roughly 48%. For Chery, pushing local production is "not just about selling cars," Zhang noted — "it's also about creating jobs and collaborating with local technology."

That ambition rests on the growing dominance of Chery's overseas operations. The automaker's 2025 annual report shows it exported 1.29 million vehicles, generating 157.42 billion yuan in foreign revenue — 52.4% of its total intake. More than half the company's income now comes from abroad.
In Europe, Chery is partnering with Spain’s Ebro to assemble vehicles at the former Nissan Barcelona factory. This move aims to localize production as the EU imposes additional tariffs on China-made EVs.
