Tesla Cybercab Arrives in China — But Only for Display
Tesla will publicly display its Cybercab robotaxi in Beijing and Shanghai from September 17.

First unveiled by Elon Musk in October 2024, the Cybercab has now moved from prototype to initial commercial operation, taking nearly two years.
The vehicle recently began operating in Austin, Texas, as a fleet-operated Robotaxi rather than a vehicle for individual consumers. Local registration data shows 45 Cybercabs currently in the operating fleet.
However, its path to commercial operation in China remains uncertain. The Cybercab has no steering wheel or pedals, while China's current regulatory framework for L3 passenger vehicles still requires hardware for driver takeover.
Although L4-level autonomous driving regulations could theoretically allow vehicles without conventional controls, China currently has no specific vehicle-access rules for passenger vehicles without steering wheels.
Any future Robotaxi operation by Tesla in China would also require road-testing approvals, operating qualifications, and compliance with data-security requirements.
Gotion High-Tech Secures Its Largest Single Energy Storage Order at 6 GWh in Saudi Arabia
Gotion High-Tech has secured a 6 GWh energy storage order for Saudi Arabia's first large-scale battery energy storage projects.
The company will provide complete energy storage solutions for three major storage sites in Saudi Arabia.
The solution uses Gotion's Qiankun Intelligent Energy Storage System, featuring high integration, large capacity, and long cycle life.
Designed for Saudi Arabia's harsh environment, the system can operate reliably from -30°C to 55°C, with additional protection against high temperatures and sandstorms.
The project further expands Gotion High-Tech's presence in the Middle East energy storage market.
FAW Hongqi Begins Mass Production of Its First Homegrown 800V Hybrid Battery
China FAW has started mass production of Hongqi's first self-developed 800V hybrid battery, designated PP40 (800V).
The battery features a three-layer safety system covering bottom protection, thermal runaway protection, and big-data early warning.
Its bottom structure can withstand 700 joules of impact energy, four times the national standard requirement.
The battery also uses active cooling and intelligent fuse-control strategies to prevent thermal propagation, while its cloud-based monitoring system provides 24-hour safety monitoring.
Developed with China Automotive Energy Storage and New Energy Technology (中汽新能), the battery uses high-rate ternary cells optimized for hybrid applications.
Its 30%–80% SOC charging time is 7.5 minutes, with charging efficiency improved by 50% compared with traditional 400V platforms.
Peak discharge rate reaches 13C at room temperature and 7C at -20°C, supporting high-power applications such as rapid acceleration and hill climbing.
