Gasgoo Munich- Geely Auto Group CEO Gan Jiayue made it clear on the Nov. 6 third-quarter earnings call: Geely Galaxy will roll out fewer new models going forward, concentrating resources to build star products. The shift marks a new phase for Galaxy, pivoting from its earlier strategy of expanding across multiple product lines to one focused on dominating with individual nameplates.
By rapidly adding models, Geely Galaxy quickly scaled its market presence over the past two years. The brand sold 153,000 units in October — a record high. Yet as competition in the new-energy vehicle market intensifies, that multi-lineup approach has diluted resources, sparked internal cannibalization, and driven up marketing costs.

On the call, Gan noted that Geely management recognizes the diminishing returns of the "flooding lineups to compete" strategy. Going forward, Geely Galaxy will zero in on core models, funneling R&D and marketing resources into the nameplates that drive the most sales to forge genuine blockbusters.
Geely Galaxy's strategic pivot mirrors a broader trend among Chinese NEV makers: shifting from a race to flood lineups to a race for quality. Previously, automakers including BYD, Chery, and Changan rushed out new models to grab share. But as market growth slows, an overabundance of models is causing internal resource drain and piling inventory pressure on dealers.
Data from the China Passenger Car Association shows that since 2026, the number of NEV models in China has kept climbing, even as average sales per model have declined year on year. Automakers now must strike a balance between lineup breadth and resource focus.
By voluntarily slowing its launch cadence, Geely Galaxy is both responding to shifting market dynamics and recalibrating its own brand positioning.
