Hong Kong racer dead in Macao Grand Prix

Xinhua (Macao) - Hong Kong racer Yau Wing Choi, Phillip, died Friday afternoon after a crash during the qualifying for CTM Macao Touring Car Cup, racing official said.

This is the second death in the 59th Macao Grand Prix.

Competitor No 31 Yau Wing Choi, Phillip, the champion of last year's Macao Road Sport Challenge, was crashed in the Mandarin Oriental Bend of the circuit at 13:11 pm local time Friday. The qualifying session was immediately red flagged.

Yau's car was ruined so badly that fireman had to cut the car to move him out. He was sent to hospital then and was declared dead at 13:51 pm despite continuous CPR.

A statement from the Macao Grand Prix Committee says, they has contacted the family and the members of the team. The Committee expresses its sincere condolences.

Portuguese rider Luis Carreira died the first day of the event in a racing accident.
