Gasgoo Munich-Infineon and Volkswagen Group China’s CARIAD and VCTC R&D teams have jointly established an Innovation Application Center in Hefei, completing the signing and unveiling ceremony. The partnership elevates their previous project-level collaboration into a long-term, structured innovation platform spanning the entire chain—from chip requirement definition to mass production.

The center is designed to streamline collaboration across the full lifecycle: from defining semiconductor requirements and developing reference designs, through system-level validation, to mass production. Infineon brings its expertise in automotive MCUs, power devices, and wide-bandgap semiconductors; Volkswagen Group China contributes its experience developing next-generation vehicle platforms and the CEA E/E architecture. By aligning chip and vehicle requirements early in a project, the partners aim to shorten development cycles, boost design reliability, and strengthen both supply chain stability and local technical support.
As vehicle electrification and intelligence accelerate, software-defined architectures have become the industry’s dominant trajectory. Automakers are under growing pressure to engage chipmakers early, secure supply chains, and tap responsive local technical support. This partnership pushes collaboration between the OEM and the semiconductor supplier upstream—right to the requirement-definition stage. By matching chip specs to the actual development needs of China-market models from the outset, the effort should speed up automotive-electronics iteration. This will also elevate the performance and functional safety of vehicle electronic and domain-control systems.
Going forward, the two sides will focus on three core scenarios: vehicle E/E architecture, domain controllers, and onboard power supplies. Work will span chip technology assessments, reference design development, hardware-in-the-loop testing, reliability validation, and failure analysis. The collaboration will draw on Infineon’s AURIX™ microcontrollers and automotive power modules, tailoring them deeply to Volkswagen Group China’s CEA E/E architecture to bring relevant features to market faster.
The center marks yet another deep-collaboration platform between Infineon and a top-tier automaker. The partnership is expected to help speed the mass production of Volkswagen Group China’s next-generation smart connected models. It will also bolster the broader collaborative innovation ecosystem across the automotive electronics industry.
