Gasgoo.com (Shanghai October 12) - With the domestic automobile market in China currently in a rut, manufacturers are looking overseas for profits. Zhi Luxun, assistant director of the Ministry of Commerce's Department of the Mechanic, Electronic and Hi-tech Industry, the country will go about raising the standards of vehicles destined for export, thus increasing the international competitiveness of Chinese vehicles, the National Business Daily reported today.

According to Mr. Zhi, the country will consider increasing the standards for manufacturers' sales networks, while reorganizing the business structure for automotive enterprises. Mr. Zhi emphasized that raising the quality of Chinese vehicles was key for increasing their competitiveness. "Ever since entering the WTO, our automobile exports increased from 20,000 to a peak of 680,000 vehicles," Mr. Zhi stated. "In other words, compared with ourselves, the speed of our development is optimistic… our growth has [multiplied] close to 40 times."

However, Mr. Zhi pointed out that the industry should still remain on its toes. "The factors controlling us lie within ourselves."
