Gasgoo.com (Shanghai September 1) - The number of lawsuits related to joint venture brand vehicles rose far quicker than own brand vehicles in the first half of the year, Shanghai Securities News reported today. As consumer demands grow day by day, the amount of lawsuits and complaints is constantly rising.
5,573 automobile-related lawsuits were filedi n the first half of 2011, with 4,997 being passed. 22.6 percent of all lawsuits were purely quality-related (down from 32.8 percent in 2010), while purely service-related lawsuits constituted 9.6 percent of the total. Quality-related lawsuits were mainly focused around engine, chassis and electronics problems. A hot summer has helped exacerbate problems with tires, air conditioning and steering systems. Nearly 60 percent of all lawsuits were related to joint venture vehicles, with total value ranging between 80,000 yuan and 120,000 yuan ($12,560-$18,840).
China Automobile Dealers Association Secretariat Luo Lei pointed out that as JVs constituted a larger and larger part of the market, customers in turn would hold higher standards for those vehicles.
