Gasgoo Munich- On August 30, Tesla launched a lower-priced Model 3 sedan in Hong Kong and Macau. The company website lists the Hong Kong starting price at HK$205,000 (approx. 176,000 yuan). This represents an 8.5% reduction from the previous base model. In Macau, the starting price is MOP$252,000 (approx. 210,000 yuan). Tesla describes the vehicle as its most affordable option with the lowest long-term ownership cost.

To reduce costs, the new version removes or downgrades several interior and exterior features. These include ambient lighting, seat materials, and wheel rims.
Specifically, the seats are replaced with heated fabric. The audio system is scaled back to a standard 7-speaker configuration.
Compared to the entry-level Model 3 launched in the U.S. in early 2026, this version streamlines about 20 features. Removed features include the front light bar and double-glazed windows. Power side mirrors are removed, and seat adjustments have reverted to manual.
The official maximum range per charge is 572 km. This is a decrease from the previous rear-wheel-drive Model 3. That model had a range of 634 km under CLTC standards. However, the decline is marginal.
The single-motor rear-wheel-drive variant accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.2 seconds. Peak supercharging speed is capped at 175 kW. This is lower than the 250 kW in higher trims. It can still recover 286 km of range in 15 minutes.
The debut of a lower-cost Model 3 in China was not unexpected. A suspected "budget" Model 3 appeared in a Ministry of Industry and Information Technology catalog in January. The "New Energy Vehicle Catalog for Purchase Tax Exemption (26th Batch)" was published on December 31, 2025. It lists six Tesla models, including a "Model 3 Standard Range Upgrade." This model is equipped with a 52.9 kWh battery and has a 480 km CLTC range.
The aggressive pricing in Hong Kong and Macau aligns with Tesla's global "low-cost vehicle" strategy. However, it is unclear if this simplified Model 3 will enter the mainland Chinese market.
If the mainland version mirrors the U.S. trim, the balance between value and price will be crucial. The U.S. trim slashes approximately 20 features.
