This marks the third straight year Shanghai has hosted the season's opening sprint race, promising an intense three-day schedule. The agenda is set: March 13 kicks off with the first practice session, followed by sprint qualifying from 15:30 to 16:14 to set the grid. On March 14, the sprint race runs from 11:00 to 11:30, with points awarded to the top eight finishers; qualifying for the Grand Prix follows that afternoon. The main event starts at 15:00 on March 15, where drivers will battle for the championship over roughly 305 kilometers.

As the first sprint race following the implementation of the 2026 regulations, this contest serves as a critical proving ground for teams to gauge their new cars' competitiveness. The revamped rules bring a comprehensive power unit upgrade: electrical output has tripled compared to the previous generation, and energy recovery efficiency per lap has doubled. How drivers harvest energy through corners will now directly dictate deployment on the straights, injecting fresh tactical complexity into the sprint format.

With pre-season testing complete, powerhouses like Ferrari and Mercedes have shown promising form. The reshaped competitive landscape forged by these new regulations will be officially unveiled on the Shanghai track.

Chinese driver Zhou Guanyu will attend related events as a reserve driver for Cadillac, adding a local highlight to the race in his hometown.
