Gasgoo Munich- On March 4, Zeng Yuqun, chairman of CATL and a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), took the stage at the first "Members' Passage" group interview of the Fourth Session of the 14th CPPCC. There, he discussed the development of the new energy sector and the company’s future roadmap.
Zeng attributed the rapid rise of China's new energy sector to the nation's long-term strategic resolve. He noted that over the past two decades, consistent state support and policy guidance for renewable energy have provided a clear roadmap for companies and industry professionals alike.
Zeng also detailed CATL’s evolution. Sticking to a path of independent innovation for over two decades, the company has poured more than 80 billion yuan into R&D—with annual spending topping 20 billion yuan in recent years. The battery giant now employs over 21,000 R&D staff and holds more than 50,000 patents. On the ground, its products power over 20 million vehicles globally, while more than 3,000 energy storage stations rely on its battery technology.
Looking ahead, Zeng signaled that CATL will double down on R&D, with a particular push to integrate artificial intelligence across various fields. Research will target new materials, chemical systems, structural designs, and manufacturing processes. He emphasized that CATL is committed to selling its products worldwide while promoting its technologies and standards on the global stage—working alongside international partners to drive the new energy industry forward.
