XPENG's humanoid robotics unit raises over $900 million in first funding round

Gasgoo Munich- XPENGannounced on August 24, 2026, that its humanoid robotics business had signed equity financing agreements with several investors. The unit raised more than $900 million in its first funding round, giving it a post-money valuation of over $6.3 billion. XPENG described the transaction as the largest single private-equity funding round completed in China's embodied intelligence sector.

IDG Capital led the round, with participation from Gaorong Ventures and support from strategic investors Tencent and Alibaba. XPENG said the funding reflected investor confidence in its physical AI technology, development strategy, mass-production capabilities and long-term commercial prospects. The new investors are also expected to provide resources for expanding the robotics business's ecosystem and potential applications.

XPENG IRON is a central part of the group's physical AI strategy. Designed as a highly human-like, AI-powered humanoid robot with an emphasis on safety, it is intended to serve as a next-generation general-purpose platform capable of operating across a wide range of scenarios and improving through real-world experience. XPENG has developed a vertically integrated technology stack covering the robot's physical platform, high-level intelligence, motion control, data systems and computing infrastructure.

The company describes IRON as having an industry-leading human-like form, including what it says is the sector's first fully covered flexible lattice structure, designed to balance appearance and safety. The robot has 76 degrees of freedom across its body and 21 in each hand.

XPENG has developed an AI-native hardware platform and core components including chips, controllers, motion modules and dexterous hands. The robotics business also draws on the group's smart electric vehicle development and manufacturing systems in its pursuit of automotive-grade quality and large-scale production.

IRON uses three Turing AI chips with effective computing performance of up to 2,250 TOPS. XPENG said this computing capacity enables its physical AI model to run directly on the robot, allowing IRON to complete complex tasks autonomously without remote operation while reducing inference latency and protecting data.

According to the company, the robot's human-like hardware makes it easier to use behavioral data generated by people and adapt to environments designed for human activity. XPENG expects volume deployment of IRON to generate real-world and human-demonstration data for continued model training. Improved models could then support additional applications and produce further high-quality data, creating a cycle linking data, model development and deployment.

The financing establishes a market-based valuation for XPENG's robotics business and will support continued investment in its in-house physical AI technology stack, as well as long-term incentive programs for executives and other key personnel.

Following completion of the transaction, XPENG Group will retain control of the robotics unit, which will remain included in its consolidated financial statements. The group said its work on physical-world foundation models, Turing AI chips and AI infrastructure, together with its automotive development, supply-chain and international capabilities, will support the deployment and commercialization of its humanoid robots in global markets.
