Shanghai August 12 (Gasgoo.com) Shanghai GM, a joint venture in China between General Motors and SAIC Motor, will complete development of a prototype of the all-electric Chevrolet New Sail by the end of this year and launch the car to the domestic market in 2011, media reported today.
The joint venture will also put the Buick LaCrosse Hybrid into mass-production in China this year and put it into the market next year.
Meanwhile, General Motors will start selling the new Chevrolet Volt, an extended range electric vehicle, in North America in the second half of this year, along with the advanced technology applied. The new Volt will then be launched in China, as part of GM's global electrification strategy.
Shanghai GM will sell several hybrid and electric vehicles in the coming months in China, Kevin Wale, GM China Group President and Managing Director revealed earlier.
