Gasgoo Munich- On March 19, the lighting and sensing technology supplier ams OSRAM announced it has officially launched its China Product Development Center (PDC) in Shanghai. The facility integrates end-to-end integrated circuit development capabilities, aiming to tailor chip solutions specifically for local market demands.

ams OSRAM's decision to anchor the center in Shanghai hinges on the city's comprehensive electronic information industry chain and deep pool of R&D talent. By positioning itself closer to local partners, the company aims to accelerate product development cycles and design iterations, keeping pace with the rapid shifts in the current market. This move is a core pillar of ams OSRAM's "In China, For China" strategy, designed to bring chip development capabilities directly to the region.
Staffed by R&D and engineering teams, the center will oversee the design of sensing solutions and the development of integrated circuits. Jose Vinau, Vice President and Head of the China Development Center, emphasized that the team is dedicated to fueling customer growth. Meanwhile, Kevin Shi, Vice President and Head of Greater China and APAC operations, noted that strengthening local R&D, procurement, and production is a vital component of the company's global strategy.
Now operational, the center will serve as a hub for innovation and collaboration for ams OSRAM in China, engaging directly with the domestic electronics industry ecosystem.
