Since its launch in 2024, the AUDI brand—developed specifically for China—has leveraged the Audi-SAIC partnership to reach a new generation of consumers. Its first production model, the AUDI E5 Sportback, entered the market in 2025, while the brand's first SUV, the Audi E7X, is scheduled to make its debut at the Auto China 2026. A third model is planned for 2027.
The newly signed agreement is expected to accelerate this rollout, supporting a broader and more competitive product portfolio in the years ahead.
At the heart of the agreement is the new Audi Innovation Technology Center in Shanghai, which will be led by Audi and dedicated to next-generation intelligent electrification and connected vehicle development. The facility will cover the full vehicle development process for intelligent connected vehicles, reinforcing Audi's localization strategy.
Key research areas will include immersive AI-powered cockpits tailored to Chinese premium customers, as well as advanced driver assistance systems. The center is expected to play a central role in positioning Audi as a technology leader in China's high-end smart vehicle market.
Looking ahead, Audi and SAIC plan to jointly develop four new AUDI models based on a next-generation Advanced Digitized Platform, a dedicated architecture designed for future intelligent connected vehicles. This new lineup will complement Audi's existing offerings in China while expanding its presence in the smart NEV segment.
Audi said it is set to showcase this momentum at the Auto China 2026, where the E5 Sportback will be joined by the debut of the E7X, further strengthening the brand's market presence.
As the first SUV under the AUDI nameplate, the E7X is positioned to highlight the brand's core value proposition, combining a highly digitalized in-cabin experience with an infotainment system tailored to Chinese user preferences. The model also places particular emphasis on rear-seat comfort, aiming to set new benchmarks in the premium segment.
