Gasgoo Munich- In August 2026, the dominance of top players in China's domestic-brand passenger-vehicle market widened further, with BYD maintaining its grip on the lead at 368,323 units. New-energy vehicles continue to drive incremental growth. The ranking reveals sharply defined sales tiers: leaders with comprehensive product lineups are capturing more share, while laggards face mounting pressure. The battle among domestic brands has shifted squarely to systemic capability.
According to Gasgoo Research Institute, the August 2026 domestic-brand sales ranking is as follows:
NO.1 BYD, August sales 368,323 units
NO.2 Chery, August sales 156,291 units
NO.3 Galaxy, August sales 119,137 units
NO.4 Leapmotor, August sales 103,129 units
NO.5 Geely, August sales 93,371 units
NO.6 MG, August sales 85,625 units
NO.7 Haval, August sales 64,960 units
NO.8 Wuling (Silver Badge), August sales 63,019 units
NO.9 Jetour, August sales 51,277 units
NO.10 Changan, August sales 42,669 units

The August ranking lays bare a sharply tiered competitive landscape, with the rich-get-richer dynamics only intensifying at the top. Backed by a full-spectrum new-energy lineup, BYD dominates at 368,323 units — more than double the volume of second-place Chery (156,291 units). That gulf underscores BYD's role as the primary engine of growth for domestic brands. Chery holds steady at No. 2 by balancing combustion and electric models. Galaxy and Leapmotor both crossed the 100,000-unit threshold, hitting 119,137 and 103,129 units respectively to anchor the second tier. Geely and MG run neck-and-neck at 93,371 and 85,625 units, while Haval and Wuling (Silver Badge) hover around the 60,000-unit mark. Jetour and Changan slip to 50,000 units or below. The volume gap is widening — a clear sign that scale begets scale.
For domestic brands, the pace of electrification is reshaping the pecking order. Galaxy and Leapmotor, both all-in on new energy, have breached the 100,000-unit monthly mark and continue to build momentum — proof that EVs remain the sharpest tool for grabbing share. Legacy automakers show diverging fortunes across their brand portfolios: Chery uses multi-brand synergy to hold the 150,000-unit level, yet Changan managed just 42,669 units this month under mounting pressure, a sign of uneven transition progress at the parent-brand level. BYD alone now accounts for 34.4% of total sales among the top ten domestic brands.
Across the board, the fight among domestic brands has evolved beyond individual models into a clash of systemic strength. Companies armed with robust supply chains and well-segmented product lineups are better positioned to weather risks and scale up as this market shakeout runs its course.
