In terms of sales, combined volume for power and energy storage batteries reached 223.1 GWh in August, a 20.5% monthly increase and a 65.9% annual jump. Breaking it down, power battery sales totaled 146.8 GWh, making up 65.8% of the total and climbing 48.5% year-on-year. Energy storage batteries showed significant growth; sales hit 76.3 GWh, a 34.2% share that surged 114.3% from a year ago and rose 36.0% month-on-month. For the first eight months, cumulative sales reached 1,387.7 GWh, up 50.7%. Energy storage batteries drove much of this growth, with cumulative sales of 450.5 GWh, an 83.8% surge that far outpaced power batteries.
On the export front, combined shipments of power and energy storage batteries totaled 42.4 GWh in August, representing 19.0% of monthly sales. That marks a 20.4% monthly rise and an 87.5% annual surge. Power battery exports reached 24.7 GWh, 58.2% of the total, up 64% from last year. Energy storage exports, meanwhile, rose 134.2% to 17.7 GWh, accounting for 41.8% of the total. Cumulative exports for the first eight months hit 259.0 GWh, a 49.6% increase that accounted for 18.7% of total sales.
Turning to installations, domestic power battery volume came in at 79.0 GWh for the month, up 5.9% from July and 26.3% from a year ago. Lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries maintained their dominance, capturing 85.6% of the market with 67.6 GWh installed, a 31.0% annual increase. Nickel-cobalt-manganese (NCM) batteries trailed with 11.0 GWh, a 14% share that edged up just 0.9% year-on-year while slipping 1.0% month-on-month. Cumulative installations for January through August reached 489.1 GWh, a 17.0% rise. LFP batteries made up the bulk at 402.7 GWh (82.3%), growing 18.3%, while NCM batteries totaled 85.6 GWh (17.5%), up 10.6%.
Taken together, the power battery sector saw robust growth across production, sales, and exports in August. Energy storage batteries, with their significantly faster growth rates in both sales and shipments, became a primary driver of industry growth.
