Austria lies in the middle of a rapidly growing automotive region: GM, Audi, Volkswagen, PSA Citröen and Magna are just some of the well-known companies which have set up manufacturing facilities in and around Austria. More than 1,000 international companies such as Magna, Renault or Volvo, run their Eastern European operations from their base in Austria.
The passenger car production industry in Austria is completely controlled by foreign companies. Its production is fully developed and doubled from 2003 to 2004 because new products and plants are built by international investors.
In 2006, the total passenger car production of the country rose to almost 250,000 units
Commercial vehicle production has always been minimal with all LCV production being wound up in 2000.
