Austria's automotive suppliers are in the fast lane: with total revenues of 6.43 billion euros and exports accounting for more than 80 percent of production, the nation exports more auto parts than it imports assembled cars (3.9 billion euros in year 2000 passenger car imports). By developing and manufacturing a growing range of world-class products, Austria's automotive suppliers are increasingly outperforming the competition internationally.
More than 300 "pure" suppliers and an equal number of firms that devote at least part of their production to the automobile industry have demonstrated that they are competent partners delivering finished components for various areas: auto seating systems, carpets, door covers, brake linings, airbags, engines and much more.
Despite meager growth in automobile production, the core 300 firms have enjoyed double-digit growth over recent years supplying customers that include the world's most renowned auto firms – from BMW to Fiat and VW.
