The market size for automotive parts in Chile is approximately $400 million. There are 2.5 million vehicles operating in the country. There is no local production of auto parts; all parts and accessories are imported.
Asia is the main supplier except for critical and special purpose parts such as engines, transmissions, gearboxes and axles coming from the United States, Europe, Japan, and Brazil.
Market growth is cyclical and largely follows the economic cycles. Major disturbances are foreign exchange fluctuations such as the strengthening of the Chilean peso and the Euro.
Importers that represent a specific brand, so called “brand importers”. For the case of the specific brand, the auto parts come packaged in a box with the brand logo and OEM part number and are considered to be the “genuine parts.”
