The BAIC Arcfox Alpha S (L3) is equipped with 34 high-performance sensors, including three LiDAR units. These sensors provide 360-degree environmental perception. Notably, the model supports legal hands-off driving at speeds up to 80 km/h. It has logged over 10,000 km of autonomous driving in two weeks of testing.
BAIC Arcfox released a teaser confirming users can reserve an experience for its Level 3 autonomous driving system. Reservations start in the second quarter.
The first batch of dedicated Level 3 autonomous driving license plates was installed on the Arcfox Alpha S (L3) in December 2025. This milestone signals Arcfox secured product certification and completed the registration process. The process moved from "technical verification" to "legal road use." Significantly, a week prior on December 15, the model secured Level 3 market access approval from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
The plate "Jing AA0001Z" serves as an identifier for China's autonomous driving rollout. It is the country's first official autonomous driving license plate free from highway restrictions. It is also the exclusive plate for the vehicle with the highest autonomous driving technology level in China.
According to the initial plan, this fleet will begin pilot operations on designated sections including the Jing-Tai Expressway, Airport North Line Expressway, and Daxing Airport Expressway. The goal is to accumulate operational experience in real-world, complex traffic conditions, laying a foundation for future large-scale commercial application.
