BAIC Group reaches 40 million units of cumulative vehicle deliveries

Gasgoo Munich- BAIC Group announced on August 10 that its cumulative vehicle deliveries had reached 40 million units. The milestone vehicle, delivered to the group's 40 millionth customer, was an ARCFOX Wendao V9 range-extended MPV.

The landmark comes 68 years after BAIC began vehicle production in Beijing and reflects the combined contribution of its proprietary brands, commercial vehicle operations and joint ventures.

Headquartered in Beijing, Beijing Automotive Group Co., Ltd., commonly known as BAIC Group, has developed into one of China's major state-owned automotive groups. Its operations extend beyond vehicle manufacturing to component development and production, automotive services and trade, mobility services, finance and investment.

BAIC Group traces its origins to 1958, when Beijing Automobile Works developed the Jinggangshan-branded sedan. The company later introduced the BJ212 off-roader and BJ130 light truck, two models that became closely associated with the early development of China's automotive industry.

Beijing Automotive Industry Corporation was formally established in July 1973. A decade later, BAIC helped create Beijing Jeep, widely recognized as China's first vehicle-manufacturing joint venture.

The group continued to develop its corporate and partnership structure during the following decades. Shares in Beijing Light Bus Co., Ltd. were offered to the public in 1994, while Beijing Hyundai and Beijing Benz were established with Hyundai Motor in 2002 and Daimler in 2003, respectively. The company adopted its current name, Beijing Automotive Group Co., Ltd., in September 2010.

BAIC Group now serves multiple segments through a broad portfolio. Its proprietary passenger vehicle operations include the electric vehicle brand ARCFOX, the Huawei-backed premium marque STELATO and BAIC ORV, while FOTON anchors the group's commercial vehicle business across new energy vehicles, heavy-duty trucks and overseas markets.

Joint ventures with Mercedes-Benz and Hyundai remain another major pillar of the group. At the same time, BAIC has stepped up investment in proprietary technology, filing approximately 42,000 patent applications to date.

International markets are also playing a larger role in its growth strategy. BAIC Group said its annual vehicle exports had exceeded 300,000 units, giving the group a broader overseas presence alongside its long-established domestic operations.

BAIC Group sold 795,000 vehicles in the first half of 2026. Sales under its self-owned brands reached 533,000 units, up 14.2% year over year, while new energy vehicle sales rose 22.6% to 181,000 units.

Exports increased at a faster pace, climbing 30.8% year on year to 184,000 vehicles during the six-month period. The figures illustrate how growth from self-owned brands, electrified products and overseas markets is becoming increasingly important to BAIC's business mix as it moves beyond the 40-million-unit-delivery milestone.
