China's carmaker Beijing Automotive Industry Corp (BAIC, Beijing Auto) and Italy's Fiat are not out of the race to invest in German carmaker Opel, a German source familiar with the matter said on Wednesday.
BAIC held talks with members of the German government on Tuesday, the source said.
Although the Chinese company has not provided a complete plan for the carmaker, it has made clear it would "seriously consider" Opel if a deal with Canadian car parts group Magna failed, the source added.
Fiat was not holding talks with the government on Opel, but could not be considered out of the race either, the source said.
