BMW to Recall Hundreds of Thousands of Vehicles

Gasgoo Munich- German automaker BMW Group announced on the 11th of this month that it is launching a massive global recall involving hundreds of thousands of vehicles. The core reason behind the move is a potential safety risk associated with the engine start devices in the affected cars.

According to information released by BMW, the recall primarily targets models manufactured between July 2020 and July 2022 that are equipped with specific start devices. Vehicles that had similar components installed or replaced during repairs are also included. Estimates from German automotive trade publications suggest the total recall volume could approach 575,000 units.

Reports indicate that the start system in affected vehicles may experience abnormally frequent activation, accelerating wear on the starter solenoid. In extreme cases, an electrical short circuit could cause localized overheating of the starter—creating a risk of fire while the vehicle is in motion.

Notably, this is not the first time BMW has initiated a recall due to start system issues. In September 2025, the company announced a recall of over 330,000 vehicles, citing similar short-circuit hazards in starters and related components.

BMW has not yet provided further details regarding the specific costs of the recall or the geographic distribution of the affected vehicles.
