Gasgoo Munich- International Data Corp. (IDC) has, for the first time, tracked AI cockpit solutions as a standalone market in its "China Automotive Cloud Market Tracker, 2026H1." In the first half of 2026, the market reached 710 million yuan. Volcano Engine captured the top spot with a 45% share, followed by Alibaba, with Baidu, iFlytek, and StepFun trailing behind.
IDC's scope covers four categories: AI development platforms and software, Model-as-a-Service (MaaS), AI applications, and AI operations services. It excludes hardware such as displays, domain controllers, and automotive chips. This approach isolates in-cabin software, model inference, and post-launch operations from the physical hardware stack.
In terms of forecasts, IDC projects the full-year figure for 2026 to reach 1.66 billion yuan, climbing to 4.71 billion yuan by 2030. That implies a compound annual growth rate of nearly 30% over the next four years.
Volcano Engine's dominance stems from production volume. The company revealed its Doubao large model is now installed in over 7 million smart vehicles across 50 brands and 145 models. The system handles more than 30 million in-cabin interactions and service transactions daily.
The partner roster includes Tesla China and Roewe. By late July 2026, Tesla China began rolling out software updates featuring Doubao services to the Model 3 and Model Y. Meanwhile, Roewe's Jiayue 07 became the first model equipped with the Doubao Cockpit Assistant, with SAIC Roewe reporting over 40,000 pre-orders.

Supplier product strategies are diverging. The Doubao Cockpit Assistant functions as a unified AI hub, sensing hundreds of vehicle signals and linking capabilities like vehicle control, navigation, and entertainment. In contrast, the AI Cockpit Kit breaks down model capabilities, interaction, tools, and operational services into modules for automakers to adopt as needed. The first approach cuts integration work, while the second preserves the automaker's control over product definition.
Against the backdrop of a vehicle procurement market worth hundreds of billions, a 710 million yuan market size for the first half seems modest. Yet IDC's decision to track this category separately sends a strong signal: the battle for smart cockpits is shifting from static specs like screen size and computing power to a contest over interaction frequency, cloud inference costs, and long-term owner operations.
For ByteDance, the AI cockpit business is a key battleground for the Doubao model's expansion from consumer apps to B2B industrial adoption. While Doubao previously focused on individual users, the automotive scenario unlocks a business model where automakers pay based on usage volume. As more new vehicles ship with standard large models and existing models receive OTA upgrades, software service fees from the auto sector are poised to become a new, stable growth curve for ByteDance.
