Gasgoo Munich- CATL has signed an expanded strategic cooperation agreement with China Energy Conservation and Environmental Protection Group ("CECEP"), broadening collaboration in several key areas of the clean energy value chain, according to a post CATL issued on June 26 via its WeChat account. The partnership will focus on next-generation photovoltaic technologies, sodium-ion energy storage systems, zero-carbon infrastructure development, and green mining projects overseas, with the aim of accelerating the commercialization of emerging low-carbon technologies.

One of the partnership's priorities is the industrialization of perovskite solar technology. As conventional crystalline silicon solar cells approach their theoretical efficiency limits, perovskite materials have emerged as one of the industry's most promising next-generation photovoltaic technologies, offering significantly higher theoretical conversion efficiencies.

Under the agreement, CATL will contribute its expertise in advanced energy materials while CECEP will provide application scenarios and complementary materials technologies. Together, the companies aim to accelerate large-scale manufacturing of perovskite photovoltaic products and strengthen their position in the future clean energy market.

Energy storage will form another major area of cooperation. CATL will supply CECEP with its TENER lithium-ion energy storage system, TENER sodium-ion energy storage solution, and EnerD liquid-cooled energy storage platform for deployment in large-scale wind and solar power projects.

The companies believe sodium-ion technology will play an increasingly important role in utility-scale storage thanks to its strong low-temperature performance, enhanced safety characteristics, and cost advantages. These attributes are expected to help reduce the levelized cost of electricity over the lifetime of renewable energy projects while improving operational efficiency.

The two companies will also jointly develop zero-carbon demonstration projects in Hainan Free Trade Port. The initiative combines CECEP's experience in integrated urban and industrial park planning with CATL's advanced battery storage and photovoltaic technologies.

By integrating policy implementation with technological solutions, the partners aim to establish replicable models for green industrial development that can be adopted in other regions pursuing low-carbon transformation.

Internationally, CATL and CECEP intend to collaborate on green mining projects across countries participating in the Belt and Road Initiative. The partnership will focus on promoting zero-carbon mining solutions by combining CATL's electric mining trucks with integrated energy storage systems.

The companies expect the approach to reduce diesel consumption and carbon emissions at mining operations while supporting the broader decarbonization of resource extraction industries.

As the global energy transition expands beyond electric vehicles into power generation, energy storage, and industrial decarbonization, the enhanced partnership between CATL and CECEP reflects a broader trend toward integrating advanced battery technologies with renewable energy and low-carbon infrastructure. By combining expertise across multiple sectors, the companies aim to accelerate the deployment of scalable clean energy solutions in both domestic and international markets.
