Shanghai (Gasgoo)- CATL announced on Jan. 6 that it had recently signed a five-year agreement with NIO Inc. in Hefei, Anhui province, to comprehensively deepen their strategic partnership.

Under the agreement, the two companies will strengthen collaboration across technology, ecosystem development and market expansion, with the aim of accelerating technological advancement and business model innovation in the new energy vehicle sector, while supporting Hefei’s ambition to become a globally competitive NEV manufacturing hub.
On the technology front, the partnership will prioritize joint development of long-life battery solutions and battery-swapping compatibility. Multiple technology pathways will be explored in parallel, with proven innovations fast-tracked into commercial application to enhance overall product competitiveness.
From an ecosystem perspective, CATL and NIO plan to work together on standard-setting for battery swapping and on sharing network resources. Cooperation under business models such as Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) will be expanded to help build a more open and collaborative battery-swapping ecosystem.
On the market side, the two companies will step up joint branding and promotion efforts both in China and overseas, seeking to boost global visibility and market share while delivering mutual benefits that span technology leadership and brand building.
According to both parties, the agreement marks a new phase of deep, ecosystem-wide collaboration between CATL and NIO. Through a structured, long-term partnership framework, the two companies aim to navigate industry transformation together and deliver safer, more efficient and more sustainable electric mobility solutions to users worldwide.
