China-made new Peugeot 408 launched in Beijing

Shanghai, January 26 (Gasgoo.com) French carmaker PSA Peugeot Citroen launched its new Peugeot 408 model in Beijing yesterday. The Peugeot 408 sedan is locally made by the company's Chinese venture Dongfeng Peugeot Citroen Auto (DPCA).

The Peugeot 408 was specifically tailored for the Chinese market and was designed by the French carmaker's styling teams in Europe and China. The newly unveiled Peugeot 408, with a series of seven editions, is just developed for Chinese buyers, targeting at the new, younger demographic.

The Peugeot 408, being built in Wuhan, central China and available from April, will boost "significant growth" for the Peugeot brand. The pricing for the seven 1.6-liter, 2.0-liter automatic and manual versions ranges from 121,900 yuan ($17,850) to 169,990 yuan.

Peugeot sold over 410,000 vehicles in China last year, up 44%, and wants to grow 30% this year, with a long-term goal of obtaining an 8% share of the world’s biggest auto market by 2016.

The French carmaker plans to launch one new model a year following the release of the 408 model. The company aims to sell 100,000 Peugeot cars a year in China.
