FAW Toyota may introduce new self-branded electric car

Gasgoo.com (Shanghai February 14) - Tianjin FAW Toyota is in the process of setting up its own brand, bjnews.com.cn reported. Sources within the joint venture said that the brand was already within the negotiating stage, and that research and development work on a brand new model would begin in the future. It is expected to be released within the year.

Chery's January sales reach record high of over 86000

Gasgoo.com (Shanghai February 15) - Chery Automobile released its January sales figures today, auto.hexun.com reported. The Chinese manufacturer, the country's largest automobile exporter, said its global monthly sales reached a record high of 86,299 units, an increase of 17.52 percent over last January. Of that number 10,505 were overseas sales, more than doubling its January 2010 volume. With such impressive results, Chery looks in good form to fulfill its target of 800,000 total sales this year.

Buffett-backed BYD's January vehicle sales fall

Reuters (Hong Kong February 16) - Chinese carmaker BYD Co Ltd , backed by U.S. billionaire Warren Buffett, reported a 15 percent drop in January auto sales, partly due to production constraints, which could put further pressure on its stock.

'Top Gear' coming to China

AFP (Beijing February 17) - China, the world's largest car market, is revving up for its own version of the BBC's hugely successful motoring show "Top Gear", with one of the local hosts confirming a pilot has been completed.

BYD to lure in market by slashing prices, will it work?
