The electrification project for the Beijing West Railway Station to Lehua section of the Beijing-Kowloon Railway, which is undertaken by the China CREC Railway Electrification Bureau Group (EEB) as an overall contractor, was completed and put into operation December 26.
China's total electrified railway mileage has now exceeded 30,000 kilometers, ranking second in the world.
According to a senior official from the EEB, the Beijing West Railway Station to Lehua section is 1,422.2 kilometers long and is an electrification project carried out on an existing railway line with China's largest-ever one-time electrification investment of over 7.6 billion yuan.
With the completion of the project, train speeds in the section will increase from 120 kilometers per hour to 160 kilometers per hour and the transportation volume per train will rise from the current 3,500 tons to 6,000 tons.
Furthermore, double-stack container trains will be introduced on the Beijing-Kowloon Railway, boosting the line's overall transportation capacity by over 30 percent.
