
Deutsche Presse-Agentur (Geneva) - The Chinese car maker BYD is unveiling at the Geneva Show two new electric cars aimed at the European markets with the e6-eco and the Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV), the S6DM (pictured).
The five-seater crossover e6-Eco is fitted with a BYD Fe battery unit that is said to have a range of 300 kilometres in city traffic and needing only 40 minutes for a recharge.
The BYD S6DM has fitted to the front axle a 10 kW electric motor working in combination with a six-gear transmission. A 75 kW electric motor is fitted to the rear axle. In the electric mode the car is listed with a range of 60 kilometres after which a two-litre petrol engine kicks in to increase the range to a total of 495 kilometres.
In addition BYD is showcasing a revised version of the F3DM minicar fitted with an Fe battery and a one-litre petrol engine. The car has a solar panel on the roof that also recharges the battery. In the electric mode the car has a range of 60 kilometres and in combination with the engine, 500 kilometres. The maximum speed is at 150 km/h.
