Gasgoo.com (Shanghai August 1) - Hyundai recently ordered a recall of 221,620 vehicles in the US due to a flaw with their airbag systems. According to information from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the recall will target 199,118 2007 and 2009 model year Santa Fe SUVs and 22,512 2012 and 2013 model year Sonatas. A further 32,000 vehicles will be recalled in Canada.
However, when reached for comment on the issue, representatives from Hyundai China said that there was need for a similar recall in China. In a report appearing in the China Business Daily today, Hyundai China officials confirmed that the imported Santa Fe (pictured above) lacked the safety function in question, meaning that a recall was unnecessary.
Representatives from the manufacturer explained the issue further. "All the parts of the Sonata (pictured below) sold in China are made within the country. The side airbags and other parts in the American Sonata targeted for recall are made by different auto part suppliers. Furthermore, they vary in design and construction. Therefore, there is no issue with any of Beijing Hyundai's products."
