CIIE Preview | Volkswagen Group China to Showcase Seven Models, VEGA Tech Matrix Makes Debut

Edited by Taylor From Gasgoo

Gasgoo Munich-Volkswagen Group China will take the stage at the ninth China International Import Expo (Nov. 5–10, 2026) under a fresh strategic banner: "Rooted in China, Winning Globally." Gasgoo learned the details from the company on Nov. 3.

Having exhibited at all nine editions, the group is bringing seven flagship models across its Volkswagen, Audi, and Porsche brands. The lineup includes four new-energy vehicles and one model making its public debut in China. An upgraded "Digital Magic Cube" exhibit will showcase the capabilities of VEGA — its locally developed tech matrix — and CEA, the software backbone.

On the model front, the Volkswagen brand is fielding three battery-electric vehicles: the SAIC Volkswagen ID.ERA 5X, the FAW-Volkswagen ID.AURA L5, and the Volkswagen Anhui ID. UNYX 09, a smart electric coupe. The ID.ERA 5X and ID.AURA L5 are the first to carry the full VEGA tech suite. Built on the CMP platform and CEA electrical architecture, the ID.ERA 5X packs a 4-nanometer cockpit chip and lidar. It leverages Corewise's Hyper Sense 8 end-to-end large model for enhanced L2-assisted driving and is slated to hit the market this November.

Jointly styled by Chinese and German designers, the ID.AURA L5 boasts an 84.4% interior space utilization rate, frameless doors, semi-flush door handles, and an electric liftback. The ID. UNYX 09, meanwhile, features 5C ultra-fast charging — a 10-minute plug-in adds 500 km of range. It delivers a CLTC range of 755 km and supports both highway and urban NOA (Navigate on Autopilot).

From Audi, the all-new S5 Avant shares the spotlight with the Audi E7X — the first pure-electric SUV under the AUDI brand. The S5 Avant rides on the PPC luxury combustion platform with a 3.0T V6 engine; the E7X sits on a smart digital platform, adopting a 900-volt architecture that blends quattro all-wheel drive with advanced driver-assistance systems. Porsche, for its part, will stage the Chinese public debut of the new 911 GT4 R and showcase the Panamera Exclusive Edition tailored for the local market. Classic models will also be displayed at its Jiading Comprehensive Bonded Zone booth.

On the tech front, Volkswagen Group China is upgrading its "Digital Magic Cube" exhibit to spotlight the CEA software platform. CEA is already deployed at scale across five new models from the group's three joint ventures, with software updates rolled out this year. Powered by the C-Brain AI development toolchain, CEA integrates AI agents into software design and engineering verification — accelerating the integration of vehicle intelligence and sharpening innovation efficiency.

This year's CIIE marks the first time Volkswagen Group China presents its upgraded strategy on a national open platform. The group emphasized that China is far more than a key global market — it is the core stronghold for its electric and intelligent transformation. By tapping into China's innovation ecosystem, cost structure, and development framework, the automaker is pushing locally developed tech and models into broader markets, with a particular eye on the Global South.
