The plant is expecting to be completed in the second half of 2011 and put DFMA 16 series engine into production in order to assemble into its own-brand cars. This move signifies that Dongfeng's own-brand vehicles are making a breakthrough from car manufacturing to critical core technology.
DEPV's engine plant will progressively put 1.6L series engine (DFMA16-40, DFMA14-40, DFMA14T-40) and 2.0L series engine (DFMB20-50, DFMB20T-50, DFMB24-50) into production. The newly developed engines will also be put into production gradually.
A reporter learned from DFPV that its engine plant is located in its passenger vehicles' factory in Wuhan. After DFMA 16-40 started its mass production, they will be equipped to Dongfeng Fengshen passenger cars.
A source from DEPV said that as early as three years ago, when Dongfeng Motor Corporation planned the DEPV project, they left some development scope for the engine plant.
