Dongfeng Motor Completes Winter Validation for First EMB Mass-Production Project

Edited by Taylor From Gasgoo

Gasgoo Munich-On March 24, Gasgoo learned from official sources that Dongfeng Motor recently completed winter validation for its first EMB (Electro-Mechanical Braking) mass-production project. Jointly conducted by experts from Dongfeng's General R&D Center and Yipai Technology, the tests confirmed the system meets production standards for braking on low-friction surfaces, placing its maturity among the industry's top tier.

The EMB system eliminates traditional hydraulic lines and brake fluid, instead using an electronic control unit to drive the motor directly. This gives it a distinct advantage in response speed over current mainstream One-box hydraulic brake-by-wire solutions. Dongfeng has added a triple-protection mechanism: even if both the primary and secondary controllers fail, the system can still engage the front calipers using the brake light switch signal.

EMB technology has emerged as a focal point in the brake-by-wire chassis sector. Mass production hurdles center on motor control precision, algorithm adaptability, redundancy architecture, and stability under extreme conditions. Dongfeng has invested heavily in this field, filing more than 20 patents to establish a proprietary technology ecosystem. In extreme cold of minus 30°C, the system cleared critical validations for low-friction braking control, low-temperature reliability, and consistency on ice and snow, with NVH performance and braking smoothness meeting engineering maturity requirements.

The technology is scheduled to make its production debut on Dongfeng models in the third quarter of 2026.
