Key Takeaways
Dongfeng Motor's "Tianjing Zero-Carbon Plan," built around a "1331" strategic framework, aims to work with ecosystem partners to bring together more than 10 million energy replenishment facilities and achieve annual coordinated carbon reductions of more than 1 million tonnes.
Under the "Tianji Yangfan" global business plan, Dongfeng Motor will use hydrogen energy as a key focus for the globalization of its commercial vehicle business, with an emphasis on the Americas and Central and Northern Asia.
At the IAA TRANSPORTATION, Dongfeng Motor premiered the DONGFENG-1, DONGFENG-2 and DONGFENG-3, targeting long-haul trunk logistics, resource transportation and urban cold-chain distribution, respectively.
Dongfeng Motor also premiered a 400kW fuel cell system that the company says achieves more than 58% efficiency under typical operating conditions and a peak system efficiency of 65%, with a power density of 1,350 W/kg, an equivalent service life of 33,000 hours and cold starts at temperatures as low as -40°C. Its hydrogen storage module enables a claimed range of up to 1,700 km on a single refueling.
Hydrogen vehicle lineup
At the Wuhan Technology Innovation Week exhibition, Dongfeng Motor's Tianlong KH hydrogen fuel-cell tractor was displayed with a 300kW fuel cell system and a range of more than 700 km. Chenglong showcased a hydrogen-electric range-extended heavy truck, while Dongfeng Commercial Vehicle Co. exhibited a 4.5-ton hydrogen fuel cell light truck. The refrigerated version has hydrogen consumption as low as 2.5 kg/100 km and a range of more than 600 km.
Hydrogen technology and commercial deployment
Dongfeng Motor said it has nearly 30 years of experience in hydrogen fuel cell R&D and vehicle manufacturing, and has built an in-house technology system covering applications from 20kW to 400kW. Its hydrogen products have completed commercial validation in more than 40 Chinese cities, with more than 10,000 vehicles deployed cumulatively.
