Door problem prompts Toyota Sienna recall

Detroit news From Detroit news

Washington — Toyota Motor Corp. is recalling 77,000 Sienna minivans that have doors at risk of opening during driving.

The Japanese company said the vehicles it is calling back have sliding-door motor circuits that could be overloaded if their opening operation is impeded, which could result in the opening of the fuse for the motor.

The company said the minivan’s doors could open if the glitch occurs when the door latch is in an unlatched position, even if the vehicles are in motion at the time.

Toyota said is working to develop a remedy for this problem, which the company said affects 2011-16 Siennas that have been sold in the U.S.

The company said known owners of the involved vehicles will be notified of the recall by mail by mid-January.
